🩵🩷 Audie & Khloe's Birth Story 🩷🩵

Sometimes the most beautiful stories are the ones that don't go according to plan.

For months, Kirstie dreamed about meeting her twins. Their pregnancy had been remarkably smooth, and as the weeks passed, Audie and Khloe continued to grow beautifully. At a Maternal Fetal Medicine appointment, both babies looked healthy and strong. Audie was head down and ready for birth, and Khloe surprised everyone by turning head down during the appointment. Everything seemed reassuring. But later that week, something felt different.

Kirstie began feeling unusually weak and overwhelmingly tired. Trusting her instincts, she reached out to her care team and went in to be evaluated.

What started as a precaution quickly became an unexpected hospital stay.

Her blood pressure had become dangerously elevated, and suddenly the possibility of meeting her babies much sooner than expected became very real. Medications were started. Magnesium was administered. Doctors, nurses, and specialists worked together to monitor both mom and babies closely. The days that followed were filled with uncertainty, difficult decisions, and countless emotions. Would she be able to have the VBAC she had hoped for?

Would the babies need to be born immediately?

Would they need NICU support?

No one knew exactly what the coming days would hold.

What everyone did know was that Kirstie's greatest priority was bringing her babies safely into the world.

As her blood pressure stabilized and the babies continued to do well, a new plan began to take shape. Steroid injections were given to help Audie and Khloe's lungs mature in case they needed a little extra support after birth. The goal became reaching 34 weeks safely.

Although it wasn't the birth she had originally imagined, Kirstie faced each new challenge with incredible strength and grace. When 34 weeks arrived, a cesarean birth became medically necessary. While it wasn't the VBAC she had hoped for, her focus never wavered from what mattered most: bringing her babies safely into the world.

Then, on the morning of June 8th, the day finally arrived.

After months of anticipation, countless ultrasounds, prayers, preparations, and a week filled with uncertainty, Audie and Khloe were finally ready to meet their family.

🩵 Audie was born first, weighing 4 pounds 3 ounces and measuring 18 inches long.

🩷 Khloe followed close behind, weighing 4 pounds 6 ounces and measuring 18.25 inches long.

In those first precious moments, delayed cord clamping was able to be honored before the twins began their own journeys outside the womb.

Like many babies born at 34 weeks, they each needed a little extra support as they adjusted to life on the outside.

Audie required CPAP support to help his lungs transition, but from the very beginning his care team was optimistic about his progress.

Khloe showed everyone her own quiet strength, breathing room air while continuing to learn the skills that come with being born a little early. One of the most difficult parts of Kirstie's birth story came after delivery. Because of her magnesium treatment and recovery, she was unable to immediately spend time with her babies the way she had hoped. While she recovered, Audie and Khloe received the specialized care they needed, and Kirstie faced the emotional challenge of waiting to be reunited with them.

But even from a distance, a mother's love reaches far beyond hospital rooms and NICU walls, while Mom recovered, another very important family member was preparing for a moment she had been waiting months for.

Big Sister Emery.

The little girl who had spent months talking about her baby brother and baby sister was finally about to meet them.

As she gently held her tiny brother and kissed his forehead, and later cradled her baby sister in her arms, it was clear that her heart had been ready for them all along. Long before Audie and Khloe would remember that day, Emery was there welcoming them into the world with tenderness, wonder, and love.

In that moment, she wasn't just meeting her siblings.

She was becoming a big sister.

A family of three had become a family of five.

What began with uncertainty ended with two beautiful babies, a strong and courageous mother, proud parents, and a big sister whose heart had somehow grown big enough for two more people. The road to birth wasn't the one they expected, But it led them exactly where they were meant to be.
